Aberdeen-based Lighthouse, a leading information design consultancy, is celebrating 15 years in business with a turnover approaching the milestone £1 million mark. The company was established in 1992 by Sandy Boak and John Duncan and has successful developed and grown to currently employ 8 staff in its Aberdeen base.

John Duncan, Lighthouse managing director said: "We identified a gap in the market for an information design consultancy which focuses on the effective visual communication of information with an emphasis on structure, format and style - not merely following the latest design trend."

Starting off with only two staff in a rented Queens Cross basement, the company has steadily expanded to now employ 8 staff, with three directors who are specialists in their individual fields - John Duncan, focusing on the business as MD, Stuart Smith, director of digital media and Gavin McAlley, director of Brand and Literature.

"This industry has changed greatly in recent years. A new millennium has brought new distribution channels and new opportunities to communicate your message. Lighthouse has evolved to encompass these changes and now offer 3D animation, as well as our other print, web, video and eLearning solutions."

Looking to the future the company plans to expand in several areas, "The main one being 'localisation' of corporate communications as organisations expand overseas. As companies move into overseas markets they are encountering difficulties with training and communicating effectively with in-country staff and clients. Lighthouse is developing and expanding it’s expertise in cross-cultural communication design solutions and eLearning packages to provide companies with an effective ongoing presence in these markets" concluded Mr Duncan.
